I am so excited to share twelve books with you this Christmas. Each of these I have read and are by authors I particularly enjoy. Whether a short story, novella or a full-length novel, these stories all deal with the heart and joy of Christmas in their own way.

I have a confession to make. I used to think Christian fiction was not as good as mainstream fiction. It wasn’t as literary or as quality, or at least that was my perception as a person who had made a living studying and teaching literature.

When you are little, they teach you that “fiction equals fake” and that “nonfiction equals true,” but I dislike that distinction. While I understand that alliteration can help a child to remember the difference between fiction and nonfiction, calling fiction fake places a negative connotation on fiction.

“What are the sounds of your morning?” My friend asked this question on social media this week, and I was floored. When was the last time I took the chance to just listen to the sounds around me in the morning? I truly can’t recall. What are my sounds?

“But I am sure the wet sand / as well as the sanguine sea / are rolled into the darkness / as one.”
