Types of Manuscripts/Content I will contract:
Most Types of Fiction
Only Manuscripts written in US or Canadian English. However, I will consider providing Editorial Reviews or Line Editing for manuscripts written in UK English since those edits focus on either the story being evaluated as a whole or sentence flow and story clarity respectively, rather than grammar, spelling and the more minute aspects of language.
Short stories or novellas, although there may be a minimum price for those documents.
My Specialties:
Fantasy: I enjoy world-building with authors!
Historical Fiction: Particularly anything from Biblical/Roman empire era to pre-WWI European or American historical fiction…
Literary Fiction: Putting that master’s in literature to good use…
Young Adult: all genres—I’ve spent nearly two decades in high school/college education, working with youth and drawing on this genre.
Christian Fiction: all genres—I love a good message!
What I am NOT a Good Fit for:
Most Non-fiction: I just haven’t studied that side of the industry enough to feel like I’d be giving the best product to my clients. With nonfiction, I tend to default to my past in academia, which isn’t what you want.
Technical documents (e.g. medical documents, etc) or academic documents—even though in editing I’m using the logical side of my brain where technical writing draws from, I still can offer the most consistent product if I limit my editing to fiction.
Erotica, occultic, paranormal, extremely graphic and/or sexually violent books are all manuscript genres/content I will turn away. As I do not read books in those genres myself, and my editing experience is not in those genres, I would not be the best editor for anyone with manuscripts that fall in those categories. Content I take ought to be no spicier than PG13.
Content/Development Edits, Proofreads, Book Copy/Blurbs, Proposals, etc. By focusing my services to a few types of edits and services, I can stay in my strengths and feel confident I am offering the best results to my authors.*
